An unidentified man is pictured with a poached elephant tusk at a holding cell at the Uganda Wildlife Authority headquarters, Murchison Falls National Park. Poaching is a multifaceted phenomenon with so many potential drivers, ranging from satisfying subsistence needs to acting on opportunities for poor people to assist commercial poachers and crime syndicates specialized in selling illegal wildlife trophies on international markets. Sadly these vulnerable people are the ones that pay the true price with hefty fines and long prison sentences. Often taking the only breadwinner away from families and community. As the crime syndicates keep on exploiting the vulnerable, robbing them of a sustainable economic future. Photo: Paul Hilton / Earth Tree Images
